“When can we come back?” If you really want to escape to a romantic rural retreat, I cannot speak highly enough of Button’s Cottage. We loved it so much we cancelled our other plans to extend our stay here, instead.
It’s isolated, at least half an hour’s drive to Ulverstone and there’s no mobile or internet service (at least with our provider), but that’s the beauty of it. I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed! Although it’s off the beaten track, it’s easy enough to find.
When you get to the windy gravel road keep going - you’re nearly there! The cottage itself is a little gem. Full of historic character and charm, yet equipped with all the basic modern conveniences you might need. Although it was quite brisk outside, we were warm and cosy inside and it was perfect weather for cooking up a hot soup with toasty bread from the supplies we’d brought with us.
There’s plenty to do outside the cottage too. We tried our luck at fishing in the creek (there’s fishing gear at the cottage) and took a hike to the waterfall (it can be slippery, so be sure to wear decent shoes/boots). Our host Alison was friendly, warm and accommodating and made sure we
were well provided for.
The only downside is that we had to come home - we’d have loved to stay longer!”

Staying at Buttons Cottage was a true rural experience. We arrived late in the evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary, a year after we got married by the waterfall. The cottage was warm and welcoming and the provisions generous. The road takes you into what seems like another world, through a deepening forest down past a stream and up onto a flat area where the trees clear to an intimate secluded property. We arrived in the pouring rain, such a soothing comforting sound to relax to.

A night in front of the warm fire and snuggled up on the couch we watched a movie and soaked in the atmosphere. Each room was so well appointed, but not cluttered, just right. We had the best night’s sleep in one of the most cosiest beds we have ever slept in, pure bliss.

The next morning a hot shower and a great cooked breakfast later we headed off to Cradle mountain to continue our weekend journey, what a stay.

If only we could have stayed for longer, the fishing gear, waterfalls to explore and farm animals to observe could have easily taken the full weekend up just here. We can’t recommend it more highly as a place to get away for two or even 2 couples.
